Viticulture

Vineyard: From the Botriver Ward, vineyard planted with a density of 4000 vines per ha.
Soil Type: Bokkeveld shale
Vine Age: 10 years old.
Irrigation: Drip Method
Harvest Date: February 2007.
Yield: 6 t/ha

Vinification:

Sourced from low yielding vineyards from the Wildekrans Wines Estate on the Botriver Ward, which is a subdivision of the Walker Bay appellation.
After early morning harvest, cool grapes are brought into the cellar and then undergo cold maceration for 3 to 4 days to extract soft tannins and ripe fruit flavors before allowing fermentation to begin.
Throughout vinification handling was kept to a minimum to ensure that true fruit flavors were retained.
80% of this wine was matured in medium toasted French Oak barrels and 20% in heavy toasted American Oak barrels for 12 months.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Light ruby red.
Nose: Cinnamon, spices along with some notes of red berries.
Palate: This Pinotage has a silky texture which is characterized by flavors of red berries and spice that linger on the palate.
Other: This is a soft styled Pinotage; it will complement well; grilled steak, beef stir fry, pan fried chicken livers or even a Cajun dishes.
