2014 Pinotage

Viticulture

Vineyard: Bush vines planted on a south facing slope.
Soil Type: Klapmuts, Escourt, Cartref and Bokkefvelt shale.
Vine Age: 10 years old.
Irrigation: Drip Method
Harvest Date:
Yield: 7 t/ha.

Vinification:

Harvested at 25 balling, handpicked and delicately crushed. Cold soaked through the night. Fermentation was started the next morning, pump overs every 4 hours. Lightly pressed and matured in french oak barrels for 18 months.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Dark cherry and purple.
Nose: Plush and plummy, light vanilla with pepper and clove.
Palate: Bright red berries mixed with some blackberries, mulberry and some morello cherry. Soft tannins with a fresh, lingering finish.
Other: This Pinotage will go well with smoked duck, pulled pork, spicy BBQ or any meaty pizza.
