Viticulture

Vineyard:
Soil Type: Koffieklip and oak leave soils.
Vine Age: 11 years old.
Irrigation: Drip Method
Harvest Date: Beginning of March
Yield: 5 tons per hectare

Vinification:

Grapes are sourced from Fairtrade certified vineyards predominantly in the Piekenierskloof and Swartland regions. These vineyards are trellised and grow on Koffieklip and oak leave soils. The vineyards are meticulously farmed and managed.

Grapes are handpicked and machine harvested whereafter it is cold soaked for 24 hours. Fermentation is initiated with selected yeast strains and is kept under 26° Centigrade. Malolactic fermentation is completed in tank and the wine is matured for six months, using French and American oak.

Tasting Notes:

Color: Dark red
Nose: Ripe blackcurrant and plums aromas.
Palate: The wine has a medium complexity with red fruit flavors and dark mint chocolate.
Other: Ideal companion with rich casseroles, roasts and venison.
